Scoil Naomh Molaise, Grange, Co. Sligo

History of the School

St. Molaise

St. Molaise, the founder in the sixth century of the monastic settlement of Inishmurray, was and is still an appreciated member of that number of priest-abbots of his time. We justifiably look back on that golden age in our history for inspiration. It is right and fitting that our Primary School, Parish Park, our GAA Club and the parish itself is called after St.Molaise, the patron not only of Inishmurray, but also especially of the adjacent surrounding Sligo mainland.

The original school on the present site was opened in 1984. This had replaced a three-roomed school (beside Super Valu) which was built in 1962, which in turn had replaced a two-roomed school dating from the 19th century. The recent extension, consists of four classrooms, four resource rooms and a staffroom. It also comprises a new 40m x 30m Astro pitch, a new grass gaelic football pitch and a new tarmacadam play area at the front of the school.
